Comments: It Can't Happen in Florida?

Wow - An incredibly stupid knee jerk reaction. Keeping guns out of criminals' hands is a worthy thing to go for, but this is as worthless as the federal law was. As soon as I read the reference to the defintion of "assault weapon" referring to the former federal law, it lost all meaning or sense.

"Florida is so evenly split between liberals and Americans" - Uber Snarky yes, but I like it.

"...WHEREAS, a Miami-Dade police officer was shot with a semiautomatic assault weapon the day before the federal assault weapon ban expired..."

It worked so well the first time around, let's do it again.

"...WHEREAS, according to the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, assault weapons are preferred by criminals rather than by law-abiding citizens eight to one,..."

I hadn't heard that one before. From what I've heard, the firearms most commonly used by criminals are handguns, the vast majority of which are obtained through illegal means.

And where's the logic in banning 20-rd. magazines, but carrying a duffle bag full of loaded 10-rd. magazines is OK?

Can anyone say stepping-stone legislation?

As if I have to ask?

Bruce, her entire bill is based upon false information if you look at it closely. I fisked her pretty good, but ran out of practical posting space after only the first page and change.

She truly doesn't have a clue what she is talking about.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" are currently banned as well. Another common bounce is any word containing the string "cialis" which means words such as socialism will be rejected. Try putting a hyphen into a word like that.
