Comments: Death At Gun Club

I wonder if anyone's done a comparison to see which pastimes are the deadliest. You do tend to hear about one or two deaths on the football field every year, and car racing isn't all that safe. It'd be nice to have the numbers just in case these rare (but always tragic) events are used as arguments against sport shooting.

Shooting sports has got to be way down on the list. Of all the organized sports I can think of, shooting has to be the one most safety conscious, mainly because one screw-up can result in almost certain death. Also, of all the sports I know of, it is the one where you are not only expected but encouraged to look for and call out unsafe behavior and arguing about it is NOT tolerated.

Hunting aside, I'd be surprised if more than 10 people a year died at organized shooting events.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" are currently banned as well. Another common bounce is any word containing the string "cialis" which means words such as socialism will be rejected. Try putting a hyphen into a word like that.
