It would be funny enough watching one of those idiots lugging one someplace, and then trying to hold it to his shoulder while trying to figure out how far to lead a 747 at 10000 feet (never mind which way the wind is blowing), and hold the gun steady.
Posted by BobG at June 30, 2005 05:38 PMI've never seen, or even seen a picture of, a .50 cal (50 BMG) rifle being shot other than from a rest. I remember once trying to hold one in an offhand shooting position, and my back hurt for a week - I'm sure that if I'd shot it I'd still be crippled.
So, if you're dumb enough to try to take down a moving aircraft with a single shot, you'll at least need some sort of swivel mount for your bolt action rifle (what an image.) This is all the legislature has to outlaw - swivel mounts for 50 cal rifles. (We .50 cal flintlock and Sharps buffalo rifle owners will have to lobby for an exception for our swivel mounts, of course, but surely the legislators will understand and be sensitive to our needs.)
