Rhode Island: Fix That Cat!

Unless you're willing to pay for an expensive breeder's license, you're cat MUST be fixed in Rhode Island State. From Yahoo/AP:

Gov. Don Carcieri signed a law Friday making Rhode Island the first state in the nation to require cat owners to spay or neuter their pets.

Cat owners must spay or neuter pets older than six months unless they pay $100 for a breeder's license. Violators can be fined $75 per month.

"By signing this legislation today, we are taking the necessary steps to reduce the number of impounded cats that are euthanized in cities and towns throughout the state," Carcieri said in a written statement.

The law would also save money by cutting down on housing and feeding costs at city shelters, he added.

I don't like government requiring such things but I'm also disgusted by the number of stray, homeless cats wandering around our streets (everywhere in the country) that were abandoned by unthinking pet owners who didn't have the common sense to spay or neuter their own pets.

Jeff;

Would you believe that the MSM mis-reported the story?

It is not a $100 license, that I could accept. It is $100 per cat per year for intact animals!

There will be no more cat breeders in RI within a year.
