Fireworks and Pets

Since it's the Fourth of July (Happy Birthday America!) I was wondering, since no doubt there are fireworks, firecrackers and cherrybombs going off in your neighborhoods, how your pets react to the noise. Two of my cats don't seem to notice but Crispy loves noise and heads right to the window to catch the action or see what it was...

My boyfriend's black Lab hates fireworks. He told me that when he got his dog from the shelter, he was told that she'd been left outside during thunderstorms, so she's frightened any time there's a loud noise. The first thing she did on the Fourth was run into his office with a plaintive look of "Daddy, make the noise stop!" Poor thing.

That's where we, as "leaders of the pack" can comfort them. They really are our kids and we need to treat them as such.
