People and Dogs and Cats, Oh My...

How many of you have both cats and dogs? How do they get along? How were they introduced to each other? Do they actually play with each other?

I'd like to see more interaction here at Tarazet so please feel free to hit the "comment" button. Remember, you don't have to provide a URL and you can always put in a phony email-address.

We have 2 dogs and 5 cats. We had 6 cats until recently when Sebastian passed away from diabetes and chronic renal failure. They all get along great. My favorite interaction was between Sebastian and Spike though, Spike loved Entenmanns, didn't matter if it was cookies or cakes. He was a very large Lab and could reach just about everywhere but on top of the fridge. Spike also liked cat food and took every opportunity to eat as much as he could out of the bowl, no matter where we put it. Desite thefact that we'd been putting the Entenmanns up on top of the fridge, but we'd come home and find the empty box on the floor and Spike looking happy and well fed. One day we found out how he was doing this as we watched Sebastian jump to the top of the fridge and began to nudge the box of Entenmann's to the edge of the fridge until he finally pushed it over into Spike's waiting mouth and solved the problem of his cat food being eaten! I'm sure they're both very happy to be reunited and I hope they have lots of Entenmanns! Thanks for the post about the Carnival of the Dogs :) Great blog you have here too!

I have a dog, a cat, 2 snakes, and 2 hamsters. The dog and the cat ignore each other. The cat is fascinated by the snakes and (obviously) the hamsters, so he's not allowed in the room that houses them. Since one of the snakes will become quite large, I find myself curious about what his reaction will be when the snake weighs 4 times as much as him.

If you love the kitty I wouldnt encourage the relationship with the snake. Snakes like having friends for dinner...I know...

I was thinking the exact same thing. I hope the snake is caged when you're not there to supervise things...
