What's In A Name?

When my oldest cat joined my family 20 years ago, I saw a rainbow that morning on the way to work. And that's the name I gave her.

When I adopted my "middle child," he looked like (his coloring) he'd spent time on a barbecue, hence the name Crispy.

Sammy is named after a grandfather of mine.

As a household with multiple pets, I try to keep each name distinct from the others, and usually two syllables long. I just delude myself into thinking that that makes it easier for each to know when I'm actually speaking to or calling them...

How did you come up with the names for your pets?

Well...My dog is named Hershey cause he's a chocolate lab, the cat is named Chewie, cause he gnaws on everything in sight, and my boa is named Plissken after Snake Plissken on the movie "Escape from New York"

Our current cats in residence are brothers, and rescued from a barn where they had so many fleas their future was in doubt. However, they recovered quickly and have lived in our Vermont home since 1997. They are both mostly white, with black and grey tiger patches in odd locations. Their names??

Seems like I usually get my pets 'used,' so they already have names.

I named Attila after Attila the Hun, as I've always liked the original Attila. My sister's cat George was based on the Yeti in old Looney Tunes cartoons but she denies it.

I didn't want her to call her by a silly pet name like Boots or something and my mom suggest to pick a letter and pick out a name from that letter. I picked E. Emily was the first 'E' name I came up with and Em just suited it so I called her that. I can't believe 14 years ago I just named her. Wow.

We adopted our cats the day after we moved from LA to Hawaii. the people caring for them kept them with the Mum for a few more weeks so we had a bit of time to work out the names. The boy is Makoa which means strong warrior or of the koa tree which is how his cooat looks and the girl is ka nani or the pretty one which she is... these are common names for children here and its been well received by the local community as a sign that we are learning about the culture ect.. I just love my Mak and Nani
